Ten students from Wakefield College have recently returned from a successful two week work placement experience in Folgarida, Northern Italy.

The ERASMUS funded project allowed students from a range of Travel and Tourism, and Cabin Crew courses to acquire a unique experience working in an overseas resort, whilst also learning about the local culture and learning how to ski. The students shadowed and undertook the duties of reps, as well as working in hotels. Some of their tasks included, serving food and beverages, supporting ski shop staff, reception duties, evening entertainment, and working with school groups.

Emily Parker from Level 3 Travel and Tourism said: “I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to go on the Erasmus overseas work experience placement in Italy with Max Ski. This was an extremely rewarding experience and in just two weeks, I learned so much, developed new skills and had the experience of a lifetime. The work aspect of the placement was, although sometimes challenging, extremely rewarding. I’ve returned home with amazing memories and a new set of skills which will greatly improve my employability skills and self-confidence. I have also made great new friends who I was lucky enough to share this experience with. Thanks to the Erasmus opportunity, I now have a better insight into what career I would like to pursue and for that I am extremely grateful.”

The work experience opportunity at the popular tourist resort has allowed the students to transfer this valuable experience to their studies and will now stand them in good stead for securing employment in the Travel and Tourism industry in future.

A spokesperson from Max Ski said, “They are definitely the best group of students Max Ski have had including some brilliant individual performances. There are definitely a few students we would really welcome as having on board as reps in the future!”

The students also received positive feedback from a colleague at Wakefield Girls High School who got in touch with the College and said, “I’ve just returned home from Folgarida, Italy where I had the pleasure of spending time with a group of your students who were doing work experience with Max Ski and looking after our school. I just wanted to pass on that they were an absolute credit to themselves, their parents and the College.”
