New Site Operative training becomes reality

A new Site Operative qualification is being offered to people in the Leeds City Region who want to get a foothold in the construction industry. This new, much needed course has been developed with funding from the European Social Fund as part of the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges’ Let’s Talk Real Skills (LTRS) project.

Specially Designed Programme for Wakefield College ESOL Students

The first two phases of a specially designed National Citizen Service (NCS) programme for a class of Wakefield College ESOL learners have just concluded. The ESOL students come from a wide range of countries, cultures and backgrounds including Gambia, Sudan, Syria and Kurdistan.

A group of environmental activists walking from Spain to Glasgow for the CoP26 summit stopped over at Wakefield College recently. Catering students from the College welcomed the walkers to Gaskell’s Restaurant and prepared an array of mouth-watering food.

Wakefield College students put their artistic flair to good use and created a huge piece of artwork to mark Black History Month. Students on the English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) course painted over 200 individual slates to create a large mural of the African continent.

Following employer research that highlighted the demand for skilled Site Operatives, Wakefield College, Consult DJH Ltd and i-Consult Ltd have developed an entry-level training course that not only formalises the skills, attributes, and knowledge required to be an effective Construction Site Operative but also offers new entrants a recognised career path which they can follow.

Award Winning Celebrity Hairdresser to Launch Programme at October Open Event
