Summary

We begin at the end: a 1930’s faded dance hall. A single shot fired and a jaded movie star takes the bullet. The detective knows he’s got his man but doesn’t know the motive. Robert Syverton takes us on his journey, from his chance meeting with Gloria, through the cruel and barbaric dance marathon they compete in and finally, to the moment he pulls the trigger.

Set against the supposed glamour of Hollywood, this play shines a light on the desperation and despair of those trying to survive the Depression of the 1930’s. We meet a whole host of characters thrown together in the murk and mire, in an attempt to find the means to live and the will to carry on. But who will make it across the finish line?
