Hospitality & Catering

From boutique restaurants to global hotel chains, there is a worldwide shortage of qualified, skilled staff in the industry.

Hospitality & Catering at Wakefield College

The hospitality and catering industry is the largest growing sector in the world, but there is a shortage of skilled staff within the industry.

The majority of our students gain full-time employment before they’ve even finished their course with us! Our courses offer you the chance to begin a rewarding and exciting career, perhaps working at a famous restaurant or owning your own business.

Teaching isn’t confined to the classroom. You’ll use Gaskell’s, our award-winning training restaurant which is open to the public, our bar, Deli shop, industry-standard training kitchens and conference suite.

Key Points
  • opportunity to enter internal and external competitions such as Golden Apron
  • provide catering at various events across the district including the Food, Drink and Rhubarb Festival and Armed Forces Day
  • expertise of tutors brings wealth of industry experience
  • great regional, national and international links

Studying here allowed me to get experience of working in a busy kitchen and restaurant service at Gaskells and developing new skills working in the kitchens of Hiltons 5* hotel on a work experience trip to Malta.

We learn all about the hospitality industry and have the opportunity to work in Gaskell’s, the College restaurant which is open to the public. It gives you a good understanding of all the different sections that make up the restaurant and the skills needed to run and manage it.

This is a good place to be; the facilities are great and enable us to learn complex techniques and create intricate dishes.

I chose Wakefield College because it offers such a wide range of courses and because past students told me that the training the College provides is outstanding.
