Wakefield College generates a lot of interest and we receive many calls from Employment Agencies and Recruitment Advertising Agencies, although we do appreciate the interest you have shown in Wakefield College, our Policy, as approved by our Governors, states that we must recruit candidates directly ourselves wherever possible, we therefore do not accept any cold calls or any speculative emails from agencies.

Entry Requirements
We look for the highest quality candidates to teach our students, but you don’t need to hold a teaching qualification to get into teaching at Wakefield College. As a minimum, candidates must hold:

  • Level 2 qualification or above in both English and Mathematics.
  • A level 3 qualification in a vocational subject area, or a higher level specialist qualification depending on your chosen field of teaching.
  • A broad range of experience gained from within a vocational area.
Teacher Development Programme

Wakefield College supports all new teaching staff, with or without prior teaching experience, through our internal teacher development programme “The Programme of Excellence”.

Our teacher development programme is designed and delivered in a way that will ensure you obtain all the skills that are needed to become a teacher. Prior existing knowledge, experience and key competencies will be taken into account during the programme.

In addition to providing theoretical and best practice knowledge, you will be assigned a mentor from our high performance teaching team to support you through your early career with us.

The Wakefield College teacher development programme has four key stages to be completed within the first 12 months of employment and will commence during your first week.

The initial stage of the programme will focus on development support including lesson outcomes, SMART targets and behaviour management. As the programme moves on you will receive guidance on your performance. Your teaching will be observed and you will have meetings with your assigned mentor.

The Benefits of Working Here

It’s a calling and not a 9-5 job, it’s a privilege to attend college and failure is not an option. I try to redevelop students’ philosophies to get them to work hard. I get a good reaction as I’m an enthusiastic sort of person and they’re responsive to that! I talk to them, find out their problems and what they don’t understand.

Finance Department

At Wakefield College our vision is to be an outstanding college at the heart of the Wakefield District. We currently employ approximately 780 staff across a range of roles, campus sites and business areas.

To support this we occasionally require temporary or immediate cover to supplement the delivery of our vast range of courses; this is in addition to our advertised job vacancies.

If you would like to send your Curriculum Vitae to the HR team for consideration of any temporary roles, such as lecturing, assessing, internal verifying, administration, learning support workers, communication support workers etc. we will add your details to our CV/talent pool for a period of six months and contact you if required.
