Public Services

Life in the public services can be challenging, rewarding and exciting; we can provide you with the skills, knowledge and expertise to succeed.

Public Services at Wakefield College

The uniformed public services offer an exciting and hugely varied choice of career opportunities.

Whether you’re working for an emergency service such as the police, fire service, or paramedics, or for one of the armed services, you’ll be on the front line and every day will be a new challenge.

We’ll assist you to gain the skills, knowledge and experience you’ll need through a wide variety of residentials, visits, day trips, events and expeditions, as well as more conventional classes and practical activities.

Key Points
  • National Citizenship Service – on completion of this volunteer community project you’ll receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister
  • Visits to operational police premises to see how policing takes place
  • The Rifles Regiment is officially affiliated by us. Students can wear the Regiment’s cap badge as part of the physical training uniform
  • Lectures and presentations from staff and activity days run by our partners in the uniformed public services
  • Visits to and from public services centres and organisations

I chose to study here as I completed the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services at the College and it was natural for my next step to be a course at the University Centre. Continuing my study here has meant that I’m taught by the same fantastic tutors who brought out the best in me when I studied at College level.

I chose to study at the University Centre because it’s local and close to home, and because of this it reduces my travel and accommodation costs. The University Centre provides an outstanding academic and practical base for further study.
