The Skills Service

Launched by the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges in June 2018, The Skills Service offers a unique package of training and support for businesses in the Leeds City Region.

Introduction to Pneumatic Systems, is for engineers and technicians wanting to familiarise themselves with the design, assembly, maintenance, operation and servicing of pneumatic systems. There are no formal entry requirements, but a general understanding of engineering or an engineering background will be an advantage.

SUITABILITY & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
This full cost course is aimed at adult learners seeking a first qualification in bookkeeping software. It is also aimed at those wishing to complement their study of Book-keeping and enter employment in a computerised accounts environment.
There are no entry requirements, Students will need an appropriate level of literacy and numeracy to enable them to meet the requirements of independent study at this level.

COURSE TITLE COST COST - 40% DURATION
AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting £1,100 £660.00 12 months (1 day per week)
COURSE CONTENT SUMMARY
You will complete five mandatory units: Bookkeeping Transactions; Bookkeeping Controls; Elements of Costing; Using Computer Software; Working Effectively. Learning activities will be carried out both in the classroom and in the workplace. The College’s Resource Centre will be available, and various teaching aids will be used.
SUITABILITY & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
It is recognised as a major qualification for Technician level accounting staff. Students who gain their Advanced and Professional Diplomas and who have relevant accounting work experience can apply for membership of the AAT and will normally get exam exemptions from the Chartered Accounting Bodies.

AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting £2,500 £1,500 12 months (1 day per week)
COURSE CONTENT SUMMARY
The Advanced Diploma covers more complex financial processes including the preparation of accounts for sole traders and partnerships, VAT, management accounting and costings and professional ethics. There are 6 mandatory units: Advanced Bookkeeping; Final Accounts; Preparation Management Accounting;Costing; Indirect Tax Ethics for Accountants; Spreadsheets for Accounting. COURSE CONTENT SUMMARY
Choose modules that provide a broader knowledge of skills to help you be more effective in specific management areas, with increased focus on the areas that are most appropriate to your role and organisation. Modules include: Principles of Management and Leadership in an Organisational Context; Creating and Delivering Operational Plans; Managing Change; Managing Finance.
SUITABILITY & ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Developing a sound basis for aspiring managers and leaders, the CMI Level 5 programmes in Management and Leadership are for junior and middle managers or those hoping to achieve that role and are designed to develop your management skills whatever your industry or organisational type. Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring junior/middle managers. Whilst there are no formal educational requirements, learners should have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme. Prospective students will be interviewed prior to being accepted on the course. Students will need an appropriate level of literacy and numeracy to enable them to meet the requirements of independent study at this level.

CMI Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Level 7 £2,000 £1,200 8 months (1 half day per week)
COURSE CONTENT SUMMARY
This course is aimed at adult learners who are managers who wish to build on their strategic management and leadership skills and to focus on the requirements of implementing their organisation's strategy. The Level 7 Diploma involves the study of a combination of units to achieve a minimum of 39 credits which will develop the management and leadership skills which are appropriate to your job role. The programme is based on achieving a minimum of 39 credits from units selected from the following: * Personal Development as a Strategic Manager * Strategic Information Management * Organisational Direction * Organisational Change * Financial Management * Strategic Leadership * Strategic Marketing * Strategic Performance Management * Conducting a Strategic Management Project. Depending upon which units are selected the programme is based upon lectures, personal research, group activities, formal presentations, case studies, 1-2-1 tutorials and reflective practice. Work-based application is evidenced through the assignments.

West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges

Wakefield College is part of the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges (WYCC) Joint Venture (JV) partnership.

WYCC’s vision is to seek funding, influence, support leadership and collaborate with businesses on behalf of the seven FE Colleges in West Yorkshire.

Working with the colleges and other partners, WYCC has secured over £12 million from the European Social Fund (ESF) to:

  • provide new training and skills for those in low paid, low skilled work (More Skills Better Jobs);
  • help more people into higher level training (Reach higher)
  • increase collaboration between businesses and training providers to improve the skills of the workforce (The Skills Service).
Reach Higher and More Skills Better Jobs

The Reach Higher and More Skills Better Jobs contracts will launch later in 2018 with a variety of projects, courses and opportunities for businesses and organisations.
