A mix of vocational study, tasters and English and maths, for those who would like to learn independent living skills, personal and social development, employability and progress academically to a higher level.

About our FLEX programmes

FLEX stands for Foundation Learning Excellence, we have a range of different FLEX programmes and related courses to choose from, depending on your interests and existing abilities.

Whichever course you choose, you’ll have the benefit of regular tutorials, enrichment opportunities, and advice and guidance on your next step as you build up your confidence, qualifications and skills throughout the courses.

FLEX Programmes

FLEX Pathways to Independence or Employment

If you want to develop your independence, your confidence and personal and social skills as well as gaining skills that could progress towards employment, FLEX Access to Independence is the programme for you.

You will be involved in active learning through a series of projects which will be reinforced through enrichment time. Typical projects include (but are not limited to) exhibitions, a performance, and an enterprise business and café. The Programme also opens up possible opportunities for the College’s Supported Employment Training provision. You will develop your skills to enable progression and receive a detailed profile of the progress you make during the programme of study..

FLEX VOTE (Vocational Options, Tasters and Employability)

FLEX VOTE is a suite of programmes designed to improve your personal, social and employability skills, maths and English as well as provide an opportunity to sample different vocational tasters. FLEX VOTE will help you to develop the skills you need to progress onto a Level 1 vocational course and to make informed choices on your direction on career options. You will receive a detailed profile of the progress you make during the course.

You will learn by a variety of classroom-based, educational visits and practical sessions, depending on the vocational areas chosen. Assessment will take a variety of forms, including written and practical tests, portfolio building and external examinations.
