Construction & Civil Engineering at Wakefield College

Construction is one of the UK’s major industries and a crucial part of Wakefield’s local economy.

Traditional disciplines like carpentry, joinery, and plumbing remain core skills, but technology has become important too, and our construction students can be found using computers as often as hammers or trowels!

Split between our Castleford Campus and Lightwaves in Wakefield City Centre, both campuses have live working environments and workshops so that you can learn the practical skills hands-on.

Key Points
  • Highly qualified delivery team and purpose-built workshops
  • Industry-recognised courses
  • Excellent success rates – above the national average
  • Students learn outside the classroom in real working environments
  • Links with the community through local projects
  • All students are entered into the QUEST Scholarship run by the ICE
One of my tutors was really engaging and got me really interested in Project Management that much that I wanted to pursue a career in it. It has been very life changing for me studying at College and being given so many opportunities to succeed. The variety of different units gave me a real insight into all the roles available in the construction industry.

This course has made me a lot more confident. At the beginning of the course you have to do quite a lot of presentations which I didn’t enjoy at all, but it’s got much easier to stand up in front of people and present now. I’ve learnt a lot of new skills that I’m taking into the workplace and putting into practice which is great.
