Horticulture

Horticulture is an industry and a science; with a shortage of workers to look after public parks, gardens, nurseries and allotments, your new skillset will be invaluable.

Horticulture at Wakefield College

Enjoy working outside rather than in a classroom? Prefer practical tasks to exams? Then a horticulture course could be for you.

Working in a realistic working environment, you will complete the tasks you need to gain a qualification in Horticulture. You will work in small groups on projects to develop and maintain a large garden area.

Working in a team you will build confidence, social skills, ability to work independently and use a wide range of tools.

Key Points
  • Multiple working visits to places such as RHS Harlow Carr, Helmsley Walled Garden, Sheffield Botanic Garden
  • Group work placement activities with Wakefield Countryside Team and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
  • Working in partnership with Wakefield Council at our Horticulture facility and garden in Thornes Park
  • Any of the other key points already on there that we want to keep
